Depart the pier for the short walk to Unipraises Park. Upon arrival, board the cable-car at Barra Sul Station for the breath-taking ride to the top of Aguada Hill, located at an elevation of approximately 787 feet (about 240 metres), then proceed on-foot to the Mata Atlântica Station for a guided nature stroll in the Mata Atlântica Forest.

The approximately 0.5-mile (about 0.8-kilometre) ecological trail consisting of packed gravel, with some wood steps and slight elevation gains. Itajaí

Itajaí lying at the mouth of the Itajaí River and founded in 1860, is home to the largest fishing port and university in Brazil.

Itajaí Cathedral

Upon arrival, take a guided tour of the Cathedral of the Blessed Sacrament. Built in 1940, the Cathedral is currently the biggest artistic and cultural monument of the city. It features romantic elements and paintings of Italian artists Emilio Cease and Aldo Locatelli, along with six towers, 55 stained glass Biblical motifs, a panel of the Immaculate Conception of the Virgin Mary in the roof, and a statue of Moses descending from Mount Sinai.

Balneário Camboriú

The city is the Tourism Capital of Santa Catarina, due to the tourist facilities, beautiful beach, infrastructure and diversity of hotels. On the way back to the pier, you will visit the viewpoint on the Barra Sul footbridge that leads to the Barra neighborhood, the oldest in the city, a contrast between the past and the present. You will see the first church in the city, the Capela de Santo Amaro (outside), built between 1849 and 1863 in colonial style, with stone and mortar based on whale oil. Return to the pier.

Itajaí, Scenic Drive, Pomerode

Depart the pier for the scenic, approximately 1.5-hour ride to Pomerode. A nationally recognised tourist destination due to its cultural tourism, this neighbourhood is a prime example of harmonising and respecting the rural environment, and the preservation of ecological sustainability. Rural activity in Pomerode is a tradition passed down from previous generations, who had this activity as their main source of income and sustenance.

Enxaimel Route, Testo Alto, Half-Timber Houses, Planted Fields, Atlantic Forest, Hills

Upon arrival, proceed along the Enxaimel Route, listed as a Historic and Landscape Heritage by the Institute of National Historic and Artistic Heritage (IPHAN), where Pomeranian culture and traditions are still maintained. The Enxaimel Route traverses the Testo Alto neighbourhood. Here, approximately 50 listed, half-timber houses were built over an approximately 10-mile (about 16-kilometre) area in a valley of fields planted with corn, sugarcane, and palm trees, and surrounded by the hills of the Atlantic Forest.

Siewert House, Nugali Chocolate Factory, City Centre, Lunch, Pomeranian Museum

Next, a visit is made Siewert House, preserved by the same family that arrived in Brazil in 1868, to learn how immigrants lived and worked. Leaving Siewert House, head to the Nugali Chocolate Factory, the most-awarded Brazilian chocolate in the world, for a tour and chocolate tasting. Continue on to the small and charming centre of Pomerode for lunch at Biergarten Pomerania, a casual and traditional restaurant.

At the conclusion of your tour, re-board your coach and commence the approximately two-hour drive back to the pier.

A 45-minute panoramic coach drive from the port brings you through the city of Porto Belo to a smaller wharf where an artisanal fishermen’s boat will whisk you to your Porto Belo Island getaway. Located just 15 minutes off the mainland, this idyllic island seems miles from the city’s bustle – an oasis surrounded by turquoise water and clad in lush green Atlantic forest.

Nature Walk
Your island intro commences with a beautiful hour-long trek along the ecological trail, a circular journey of some 1,500 meters/1 mile. The level of difficulty is medium; just enough to work up a healthy appetite for the lunch that follows.

Among the highlights of the guided walk are curiosities and legends unique to the island, including one involving a golden angel statue the size of an adult man, long ago buried by the Jesuits in the vicinity of a rock known as the Stone of the Cross. The rock’s chiseled inscriptions are said to date back 4,000 years – and might actually be a map to find the golden angel. You’ll have to decide what you believe.  

In addition to the trail’s beautiful flora and fauna , you’ll encounter an elevated gazebo with fantastic island views and an orchid-decorated refuge for animals and wild birds.

Lunch & Beach Time
Following the modest rigors of the hike, your next two hours will be completely relaxed. Lunch is served at the isle’s beachside restaurant; choose from Shrimp Porto Belo, fish of the day, or filet medallions – all accompanied by side dishes, acai dessert, and two caipirinhas, beers, or juices/sodas. After spending the balance of your free island time either along the beach or exploring the nearby environs, a 15-minute boat spin brings you back to the mainland and your coach, staged for the 45-minute return drive to the pier.

Depart the pier for the scenic, approximately 45-minute drive to Atalaia Park, one of the environmental conservation units of Itajaí dedicated to protecting water resources, biodiversity, and the ecosystem. Upon arrival at the park’s entrance, take a guided, approximately 1.86-mile (about three-kilometre) hike through the park along a dirt trail. Your route begins with approximately 1,968 feet (about 600 metres) of moderate ascent, split into two paths. The left path takes you to the Água Viewpoint, and the right path to the Ar Viewpoint.

Abundant and Diverse Flora, Fauna & Bird Species, Lesser Anteaters, Opossums, Wildcats, Cotias

In addition to breath-taking panoramic vistas overlooking the park and city, discover an abundance of diverse flora and fauna. Among the flora found in the Atalaia hills, approximately 96 species distributed among 37 botanical families are represented. The fauna is also quite diverse, including approximately 130 species of birds belonging to 37 families, along with reptiles, amphibians, and mammals such as the lesser anteater, opossum, wildcat, and cotia.
