Vom Hafen in Coquimbo fahren Sie auf der Panamericana Richtung Süden mit Aussicht auf die schönen Strände von La Herradura, Las Tacas und Guanaqueros. Explore the unique history and flavours of the Enchantment Valley during this immersive, full-day sightseeing excursion.

Coquimbo, Enchantment Valley, Beaches of La Herradura, Las Tacas, and Guanaqueros

Depart the pier for the scenic, approximately 1.5-hour drive southward on the Pan-American Highway towards the Enchantment Valley. En route, marvel at beautiful coastal beaches such as La Herradura, Las Tacas, and Guanaqueros, then travel along a country road to the valley. The Enchantment Valley has great archaeological importance, and is considered an open-air museum of scientific and cultural interest. The 'El Molle' culture, and other groups of ancient hunters, inhabited this valley from circa 2,000 B.C. to 600 A.D.

Petroglyphs, Pictographs, Piedras Tacitas, Limari River, Quebrada Seca

Upon arrival, take a guided walking tour to explore the vast array of incredible and interesting petroglyphs depicting masks, heads with antennae, tiaras, sun symbols, and snake-like and fish-like shapes deeply-engraved in rocks. In addition, you may see pictographs of lineal drawings, human beings, and other figures in natural paint, as well as the Piedras Tacitas (Small Cup of Stones). Afterward, re-board your coach and continue on toward Viña Tololo, nestled in 'Quebrada Seca' on the northern plateau of the Limarí River. This privileged sector of the valley, located approximately 11 miles (about 18 kilometres) from the sea, presents unique climatic and soil conditions for the production of wines and piscos of unrivalled quality.

Wine Tasting, Local Specialities

Climate, soil, location, and people make the difference when it comes to distinguishing wines of the premium vineyards in Chile. This unique terroir brings to you the possibility of tasting recognized wines right on the place from where they born. Proceed for a tasting of three different wines accompanied by local specialities. At the conclusion of your visit, re-board your coach and commence the approximately 1.5-hour drive back to the pier.

Dauer: 3.0 Stunden
Code: COQ-C

Explore the beauty, history and culture of Coquimbo and La Serena during this picturesque sightseeing excursion. On the way into the city from the South you'll see the Cruz del Tercer Milenio (The Cross of the Third Millennium), one of Coquimbo's most impressive religious monuments. Though it is often linked to the nearby city of Coquimbo, La Serena's architecture sets it apart. The city's picturesque; colonial-style old quarter makes for an interesting visit, with buildings that offer plenty of terrific photo opportunities.

La Serena

Continuing north towards the city of La Serena along the coastal route, the attractiveness of the ocean front has been developed with modern hotels, apartments, pubs, clubs and restaurants bordering the extensive beaches.  The symbol of La Serena is the lighthouse, where a photo stop is made before proceeding along the Avenue Francisco de Aguirre, which is partly lined with replicas of classical statues.  La Serena is the second oldest city in Chile after Santiago and maintains a neo-colonial Spanish style of architecture.

A stop at the picturesque craft market of "La Recova" allows time for shopping, in a colorful place where there are a variety of gifts and souvenirs made from local products especially jewelry made from the local semi-precious stone, lapis lazuli.

Finally, a panoramic view from a lookout affords a splendid opportunity for a photo stop.

Your return drive to the pier is approximately 30-minutes along the Pan American Highway.

Please note: This tour involves an extensive amount of walking for approximately .25 miles (400 metres) with many steps involved and periods of standing over mostly paved surfaces. This tour is not suitable for guests with limited mobility and guests who utilise a wheelchair. Guests are advised to wear lightweight, comfortable clothing and bring sunscreen, a hat and sunglasses from the pier. Guests need to exercise caution while at the market as pick-pockets have been known to frequent the area. The minimum age requirement for this tour is 4 years old. The tour sequence may vary. Scenic Elqui Valley
Classic - Selected Excursion
Dauer: 5.5 Stunden
Code: COQ-B

Discover the splendid beauty and history of northern Chile during this memorable half-day sightseeing tour of Vicuña and the Elqui Valley.

The Coquimbo region forms the narrowest part, or 'waist' of Chile, and is hence one of the country's more mountainous regions, as the Andes range runs closer to the sea than elsewhere.

Nobel Prize-winning poet Gabriela Mistral was a native of Vicuña, in the Elqui Valley, a Pisco producing area, famous for its beauty and clear skies.

Elqui Valley and Pisco Distillery

Head directly from the pier to Elqui Valley driving by the coastal road, where you will see the traditional light-house monument of the city of La Serena, and also some of its main avenues. Your first stop will be at the Pisco distillery plant, where besides touring the installation, you have the opportunity to taste this unique liquor. After this experience, the tour will proceed towards Vicuña town.

Vicuña

In Vicuña, visit its Main Square with its old trees in stark contrast with the aridity of the surrounding hills; the Parish Church (exterior view) with a pretty wooden tower erected in 1910; the Bauer Tower (exterior view), a strange wood-lined metal structure made to resemble a medieval tower with battlements. It was prefabricated in 1905 at Ulm, Germany, by order of Mayor Adolfo Bauer.

Enjoy a revitalizing typical Chilean snack at a local restaurant before heading back to the pier.

Please note: This tour involves a minimal amount of walking for approximately 0.1 miles (200 metres) over dirt pathways and uneven surfaces, with approximately 50 steps to negotiate at the distillery. This tour is not suitable for guests with limited mobility and guests who utilise a wheelchair. Guests are advised to wear comfortable, lightweight clothing, and bring sunscreen, a hat and sunglasses from the pier. The tour sequence may vary.
