We begin our tour from the harbour in Heimaey, and sail past the cliffs surrounding the harbour to start an interesting and informative journey passing bird colonies with millions of inhabitants and exploring caves that can only be visited by boat. Enjoy a sail into Klettshellir (Cliff Cave) where a musical instrument is played onboard and experience the acoustics in the cave.
Please note: There is a moderate amount of walking to get to the boat, and the ramp and boat surface can be slippery, making this tour unsuitable for those with walking difficulties. Dress warmly according to weather of the day and comfortable walking shoes are recommended. This tour is weather dependent and sometimes it is not possible to circumnavigate. When circumnavigation is not possible passengers are guaranteed the experience of seeing the bird cliffs from as many different angles as possible. Wildlife sighting is not guaranteed.
Heimaey Exploration with Eldheimar Museum

Drive from the pier into the Herjólfsdalur valley, and visit a replica of the Viking house. The tour continues along the western part of the island on the way to “Stórhöfði” (Great Cape). Make a stop at the two volcanoes - the 5,000 year old volcano “Helgafell” and “Eldfell” (“Mt. Fire”), visit the the viewpoint over the old town located on the new lava, and the Eldheimar Museum.
Please note: There is minimal, mostly optional walking involved on this trip on mostly paved or gravel surfaces. Dress according to weather of the day and comfortable walking shoes are recommended.
Rib Safari of Heimaey

Take a short walk to the Rib Safari Center at the harbour to gear up for your Rib Safari boat tour. Sailing around the islands in a rigid inflatable boat (RIB), you will see the highlights around the islands with various stops. We start by heading to the east of Heimaey to check out the new lava that was formed during the eruption in 1973, then head off to bird paradise Stakkabót. Discover a few sea caves during this trip, and sail into some of them before making your way back to the dock.
Please note: This excursion involves minimal walking (10 minutes) over pavement. Guests must be able to board/disembark the RIB boat. This tour not recommended for guests who have neck or back issues or who are pregnant. Warm, layered clothing appropriate to the local weather and comfortable walking shoes are recommended. Wildlife sightings likely but not guaranteed.
Volcanic Hike with Eldheimar Museum

Enjoy a walking tour through the picturesque harbour area, walk by the Skansinn church, and continue on to hike the newly formed lava fields of Eldfell. Make your way to the Eldheimar Museum, and then back to the town center and pier.
Please note: This excursion involves extensive activity of 5 to 6km (2.5 to 3 miles) of walking and hiking over uneven and grassy terrain and some paved surfaces; no hiking experience required but each guest responsible for assessing their own level of physical fitness before embarking on this tour. This tour is not suitable for guests with limited mobility and/or in a wheelchair. Guests are recommended to wear warm, layered clothing and sturdy walking/hiking shoes; no open-toed shoes permitted.
