Dettifoss und Mývatn
179€

Begin with an approximately one hour scenic drive into the largest national park in Iceland, Vatnajökulsþjóðgarður. Explore the spectacular natural phenomenon of Ásbyrgi Canyon.

Here, some time is made available for you to marvel at the horseshoe-shaped Fortress of the Gods, the result of a catastrophic flood which took place thousands of years ago. Arctic and alpine vegetation abounds around a peaceful pond located at the foot of the gigantic cliffs.

Dettifloss Waterfall

Continue with a scenic, approximately one hour drive to the amazing Dettifoss. Europe´s most powerful waterfall, Dettifoss is approximately 144 feet (about 44 metres) high and 328 feet (100 metres) wide, where up to 1,653 tons (1,500 metric tons) of water, mud and sand rumble into Jokulsargljufur.

Hljodaklettar

Continue to Hljodaklettar (The Whispering Cliffs), a bizarre looking group of crater plugs and basalt columns whose formations cannot help but conjure up all sorts of images in the imagination. The loose material of those craters was washed away by catastrophic flood waves that originated from the big icecap Vatnajokull in the south. The cliff’s name comes from an acoustic effect created by some of the spiral formations, making it impossible to determine the directions of the noisy river.

A stop for light lunch at a local restaurant will be made.

The tour will conclude with an approximately one hour drive back to the port.

Discover the stunning landscapes of Iceland's magnificent north in a unique new way during this unforgettable, half-day excursion on horseback.

Húsavík, Saltvík, Horse Farm and Stables

Depart the pier for the short drive to the horse farm, and proceed to the stables. The tölt is a flowing, four-beat gait where the rider stretches down in the stirrup, sits back and enjoys the sensation of floating. Particularly suited to Iceland's glacial landscape, its secure, high steps allow the Icelandic horse to move easily over rough terrain that would stop other breeds in their tracks. Icelandic horses average approximately 52 inches-56 inches tall (about 13 hands-14 hands).

Return to Stables

Extremely sure-footed, keen and friendly, the horses are very beautiful, with long, shaggy manes and thick coats. A purebred descendant of its Viking ancestors, the Icelandic horse is a proud product of isolation and a thousand years of breeding. Famed for its gentle, friendly disposition and calm manner, they are a delight for anyone to ride. At the conclusion of your tour, return to the stables. Upon arrival, re-board your coach for the short drive back to the pier.

Whale Watching
Classic - Selected Excursion
Dauer: 3.5 Stunden
Code: HVK-I

Experience the magnificent wildlife and scenery of Iceland during this picturesque, half-day excursion aboard a whale-watching boat.

Skjalfanda Bay and Whale-Watching

Depart the pier for the short walk to the whale-watching boat. After embarking the boat, take a scenic ride along Skjalfanda Bay, one of the premier locales in the world for observing the friendly minke whale. These normally timid mammals have been known to approach the whale-watching boats, and surface right alongside them.

Húsavík is considered the capital of whale watching in Iceland, this is due to it's wide open bay, rich marine life and excellent spotting rates. Whales are often encountered within 20 minutes of leaving the harbour, and appear to take as much interest in humans as we do in them. Boisterous, white-beaked dolphins and harbour porpoises frequently join the party, and sometimes humpback and other large whales are spotted.

Following the approximately 2.5 hours whale watching cruise, return to the pier on foot.

Please note: This tour involves a moderate amount of walking for approximately 800 metres with stairs to access the boat ramp and a few steps to negotiate to embark/disembark the boat. This tour is not suitable for guests with limited mobility and guests who utilise a wheelchair. Comfortable, weather-appropriate clothing with flat, closed-toe, rubber-soled shoes are recommended. Warm overalls, raincoats, hats, gloves, and blankets are provided as needed. Although frequently encountered on this type of tour, wildlife sightings are not guaranteed.

Whale-Watching by RIB-Boat
Classic - Selected Excursion
Dauer: 3.0 Stunden
Code: HVK-L

Upon arrival, meet your captain/guide and receive your whale-watching safety and tour instructions, then don your warm safety coverall and life vest. Afterward, embark your Rigid Inflatable Boat (RIB) and begin your panoramic, approximately two-hour whale-watching adventure. The low-profile RIB boats enable you to get closer to the marine life, and their small size enables maximum manoeuvrability to cover greater distances at speeds up to 50 m.p.h. (about 80 k.p.h.), increasing your chances of spotting some of the bigger whales, such as majestic blue or acrobatic humpback whales.

Skjálfandi Bay, Puffin Island, Atlantic Puffins, Arctic Terns, Guillermots, Whale-Watching

The waters of Skjálfandi Bay are a haven for numerous species of fish, marine life, and seabirds. Your adventure begins with a stop at Puffin Island during the nesting period (approximately April 15-August 20). Upon arrival, observe thousands of colourfully-beaked puffins, often called the ‘Clowns of the Ocean’, and Arctic terns and guillemots. Afterward, venture into the deeper waters of Skjálfandi Bay for the exhilarating whale-watching portion of your excursion. Make sure you hold on tight whilst marvelling at the breath-taking natural beauty of the coast and bay. Upon spotting the whales, your experienced captain/guide approaches within a safe distance to observe them in a respectful way.

Diverse Whale Species, White-Beaked Dolphins, Harbour Porpoises, Marine Life

Whale species commonly found here may include Minke, humpback, killer, fin, sperm, sei, and blue whales, nature’s largest mammal. In addition to these spectacular sea giants, you might catch a glimpse of other abundant and diverse marine life commonly found here. Species you may see during your exhilarating RIB-boat adventure include playful, white-beaked dolphins and harbour porpoises. Your whale-watching excursion concludes back at the boat-launch pier. Upon arrival, disembark your RIB-boat, re-board your coach, and commence the short walk back to the ship.

Please note: This tour involves an extensive amount of activity and a moderate amount of walking for approximately 0.37 miles (about 0.6 kilometres), at times over uneven, gravel, and slippery surfaces and inclines, with a few steps to negotiate to embark/disembark the RIB-boat. The ride may be rough at times, and guests will experience bumpy, jerking motions. This tour is recommended for active guests who are in good physical condition. This tour is not suitable for pregnant guests, guest with neck and/or back problems, guests with heart and/or respiratory conditions, guests prone to seasickness, guests with limited mobility, and guests who utilise a wheelchair. Guests are advised to wear warm, comfortable, clothing in layers with flat, closed-toe, and non-slip walking or boat shoes you won’t mind getting wet, and bring sun protection, a weatherproof jacket and pants, hat, gloves, towel, plastic bag (for your cell phone, camera, binoculars, etc.), bottled water, and Icelandic Kronas or credit cards for purchases from the ship. Guests under 4’3” (about 1.3 metres) in height cannot participate on this tour. Guests weighing over 350 pounds (about 158 kilograms) cannot participate on this tour. Warm safety coveralls and life vests are provided. Do not bring loose items that may easily be lost or fall in the water, such as keys, loose accessories, jewellery, etc. Make sure your hat and sunglasses fit snugly, so they don’t fly off when the boat is moving. Although frequently encountered on this type of tour, whale and marine life sightings are not guaranteed. A signed waiver is required to participate on this tour.
