Kimmirut is a small Inuit Hamlet located on Baffin Island. The community is known for its stunning natural surroundings, traditional Inuit culture and arts, particularly soapstone carving. It is one of the oldest continuously inhabited communities in the Canadian Artic with a history that dates back thousands of years. The hamlet has a small population and can be accessed by air or sea. Stop at the visitor center and explore this unique and culturally rich community with a deep connection to its natural surroundings and Inuit heritage.
Please note: A moderate amount of walking to fully-explore the community, however walking in Kimmirut is at the discretion of each guest. Local infrastructure is basic, and local road conditions are unpredictable, note that roads in Kimmirut are only partly paved, mostly on flat terrain. Guides, equipment, and services are the best-available but may not be up to the standards of those found on other excursions therefore, we urge flexibility and understanding as we visit unique and somewhat remote destinations. Dress in layers with sturdy, closed toe walking shoes/boots, and bring sun protection, insect repellent, weatherproof jacket, hat, and scarf.
