Mambalan Village

Traveling from the harbor of Lembar, a leisurely morning drive of one hour and 45-minutes takes you to the hamlet of Dusun Buwuh where the starting point of your trek.  Upon arrival, your tour guide takes you through the agricultural land of Mambalan. Typically land devoted to agriculture, the systematic and controlled use of other forms of life - particularly the production of crops. Walk through rice - paddy fields, and see several kinds of planting crops, such as: tomato, ground nuts, long beans, chili and cassava as their second crops as well as tropical fruits such as banana and papaya before arriving at the finish point. During Lombok's early days, its villagers transformed the clay soil into kitchenware and housewares for daily living, as well as irrigation systems for towns and fields. The people of this village have created pottery works for generations, and most seem to possess the natural talent and motivation to keep the pottery-making tradition alive.

Sukarara Village, Weaving Workshop and Weaving Demonstration, and Shopping

Next, re-board your coach and continue on to the village of Sukarara, one of the impressive traditional weaving centres on Lombok Island. Indonesia's weaving art form is varied and distinctive from island-to-island, and even village-to-village. Upon arrival at Sukarara Village, visit a weaving workshop for a weaving demonstration. Lombok weaving at Sukarara Village is impressive, with its beautiful motifs and designs. Observe very young girls cleverly playing the threads and wooden looms, creating patterns using figures of the moon, flowers, dragon, etc. Following the weaving demonstration, you may browse the woven goods available for sale. At the conclusion of your visit, re-board your coach and commence the approximately one-hour and 15 minutes back drive back to the pier.

Gili Mas, Lombok, and Narmada Royal Park & Temple

Depart the pier for the scenic, approximately one hour and 15-minute drive to the Lombok. Upon arrival, a visit is made to the approximately 4.9-acre (about two-hectare) Narmada Royal Park & Temple, built in 1727 by the King of Mataram Lombok, Anak Agung Ngurah Karangasem, as the site of the Pakelem Ceremony held every full-moon between October and November. In addition to the ceremony, Narmada Royal Park is also used as a resting place of the royal family during the dry season. Lingsar Temple

Lombok's most important religious site, the Lingsar Temple was built in 1714 by Balinese Hindus when they first visited Lombok; however, the Lingsar Temple is not a purely Hindu temple. It represents a blending of the Hindu tradition with Wektu Telu, a religion practiced by the Sasak people, natives of Lombok. The Lingsar temple is famous for a pool of water in the Wektu Telu area, which is sacred to the deity of Wisnu.

Sesela Art Market, Free Time and Shopping

Next, re-board your coach and proceed to your final stop, the Sesela Art Market. This local art market was built as a hub for Lombok Island residents and craftsmen to display and sell their crafts. The market consists of small stores selling such handicrafts as wooden, rattan, cane and bamboo products, along with antiques and traditional woven cloth (ikat). One of Lombok's religious and historical buildings, it was originally known as the 'Garden Palace of Kelepug', a name derived from the 'kelepug' sound that emerged when the swift water discharged from springs in the middle of the palace's pond. The Mayura Water Palace emotes a peaceful, natural, religious and historical aura. The palace is equipped with a pool, arranged in a way that looks like a beautiful garden. Although the Mayura Water Palace was designed with Balinese and Javanese influences, it also imparts a nuanced religious feel. In some special rituals, the temple still functions as a place of worship of the Gods.

Downtown Mataram and NTB Museum

Next, re-board your coach and continue on to downtown Mataram, the capital city of Lombok, for a visit to the NTB Museum. The museum's exterior features the relics of a cannon and anchor, mementoes of the arrival of the Dutch on Lombok Island. During your guided walking tour inside the museum, view collections depicting the island's geology, biology, ethnography, archaeology, history, numismatics, heraldic, philosophy, and ceramics. In addition, see dolls dressed in traditional Sasak, Mbojo and Samawa garb, part of the culture of the Province. In the main exhibition room, a row of glass cabinets contains funerary artefacts, as well as those used for marriage ceremonies. Other collections include manuscripts containing historical records of Lombok.

Pottery-Making

Depart the pier for the scenic, approximately 60-minute drive to the artistic pottery-making village of Banyumelek, one of the major producers of pottery in western Lombok Island. Upon arrival, take a guided walked from parking lot to get to the workshop where craftsmen demonstrate their skill in creating their delicate pottery artwork, a specialty of this village. In the early days of Lombok, most of the daily utensils were created from clay soil, which was transformed into kitchenware. The residents of this village have created the pottery for centuries. Most seem to possess natural talent, as well as the motivation to keep their pottery-making tradition alive.  

Sasak Village Tour, Bale and Lumbung Construction, and a Traditional Dance Performance

This old village retains its unique customs, and most of its inhabitants practise and maintain their traditional and cultural values. This village is distinctively marked by grass-roofed-houses symmetrically constructed on wood frames, and most with bamboo walls. Bale is the construction for a living house, built with a single room functioning both as a bedroom and kitchen. Lumbung is a curve-like construction functioning as a rice barn.
