Cathedral of Agios Dimitrios

Depart the pier for a 90 minutes ride to the Catheral of Agios Dimitrios. Upon arrival, ascend the rounded, approximately 600-foot (about 183-metre) hill leading up to the ruins of Mystras Castle. En route, visit the Cathedral of Agios Dimitrios. On the floor of the church is a plaque with a carving of a two-headed eagle, the symbol of the Palaeologos Dynasty. Next to it stands the richly-carved, 17th-century walnut throne.

Mystras Castle

Upon arrival at Mystras Castle, enter the castle gate and take a guided walking tour through the narrow lanes of this once invincible fortress. Along the way, visit the Church of Agia Sophia, Palace of the Despots and Monastery of Pantanassa, which is highlighted by brilliant frescoes.

Following your visit, re-board your coach for the approximately 90-minute drive back to the pier.

Upon arrival, take a guided walking tour through the narrow lanes of the castle city. Along the way, see ruins of houses and Byzantine churches. One church that survived intact is the Church of Christ Elkomenos, whcih we will view from outside. Built in the 13th century and renovated during a period of Venetian occupation, it serves as the city's cathedral and displays four surviving Byzantine icons. Following your guided tour, some free time is made available to explore your surrounds at your leisure. At the conclusion of your visit to Monemvasia, commence the short transfer back to the pier.

Liotrivi, Olive Oil Mill and Greek Lunch

Following your visit, re-board your coach for the short drive to Liotrivi, the mansion and childhood home of the world-renowned poet of Romiosini, Giannis Ritsos. It is now fully renovated, and offers a wonderful combination of history and tradition. During your visit, observe home-made bread being made, then participate in a bread and wine tasting. Next, visit the old olive oil mill and enjoy a traditional Greek lunch. After lunch, commence the short transfer back to the pier.
