When Christopher Columbus arrived in Jamaica in 1494, the Spanish settlers established a capital and called it New Seville in homage to the celebrated Spanish city of the same name. Your tour will take you through St. Ann’s Bay, a town juxtaposed with the spot where Jamaica’s first capital once stood. St. Ann’s Bay boasts a statue of Columbus which you’ll see during your drive through town. The drive along the coast will take you through Runaway Bay where some of the last Spanish settlers fled after the British captured the island. After a scenic drive passing seascapes and mountain ranges you’ll arrive at your destination, the Martha Brae River.

Your raft Captain will tell you the tale of Martha Brae, the magical Indian maiden whom the Spanish colonists tortured to reveal the location of a secret gold mine. She ultimately succumbed to her tormentors and led them to the mine. En route Martha summoned her magical powers to transform the river, drowning the Spanish soldiers and herself as well. Legend says that her ghost still guards the entrance to the mine to this day. Ponder the legend as you glide downstream this 90 minute tranquil river ride.

After departing from the pier, you will enjoy a winding and immensely picturesque drive through the lush countryside of northern Jamaica. Upon arriving to Chukka Adrenaline Outpost you will begin your tubing adventure down the White River. Expect the water to be mostly shallow and refreshing, and the riverbanks to be framed by dense tropical foliage.

Little more is required of you than sitting back in the tube and letting the current carry you along the clear, mountain-fed river. Around every curve, a new picture of paradise unfolds as your tube carries you downriver.

You will pass through the White River Gorge, over limestone riverbeds and past a former coconut plantation. Other times, you will find yourself gliding through stands of soaring bamboo that arch over the meandering river. The journey couldn’t be more peaceful or relaxing.

After tubing down the river, you will stop to enjoy lunch before driving to the Blue Hole, which lies in the jungle near the parishes of St. Ann and St. Mary. The water here lives up to its name, as it’s stunningly blue, calm, and fed by cascades known as the Secret Falls. Feel free to jump in the cool water, take a leisurely swim or simply sit on a shaded rock and enjoy the serenity. Following your time in this beautiful setting, you will return to the pier.

Delve into the life and times of reggae legend Bob Marley by visiting his birthplace in the mountain hamlet Nine Mile, followed by a classic Jamaican lunch. A wonderfully scenic drive inland will bring you to Nine Mile, whose main attraction is the singer’s former home, now known as the Bob Marley Mausoleum and Museum. While touring the modest two-room residence, you learn about Marley’s humble upbringing and Rastafarian beliefs and see the stone pillow that he rested his head on for inspiration. It must have worked, as some of Marley’s gold records and awards are displayed in the museum. At the mausoleum behind the house, you will see Marley’s final resting place in the family cemetery. Start your thrilling journey in the canopy of the spectacular White River Valley. Traverse along a series of zip lines ranging from 150 to 820 feet in length, at speeds exceeding 35 mph.

This exhilarating journey includes 6 horizontal ziplines and 1 exciting, inclined glide. You will soar through the treetops parallel to the crystal-clear White River enjoying your naturally beautiful surroundings while listening to the soothing sounds of the river below. After ziplining, return to CHUKKA’s Adrenaline Outpost to browse or purchase a refreshing beverage at the bar. Photos souvenirs and lunch are available for purchase.

Race through the dense tree canopy surrounding Dunn’s River Falls on a series of ziplines and then head for the mall for a Jamaican lunch and shopping. You will ride seven ziplines of varying lengths and heights, each of them exhilarating in its own way. The path between many of the ziplines features hanging bridges that span the falls, which add a different sort of thrill as the bridges tend to sway. The bird’s-eye views from these elevated vantage points will be spectacular. Chances are, you will see other adventurers below climbing the multi-tiered waterfall, which cascades over a bed of limestone that’s two football fields long. The water eventually empties into the sea. Following the zipline experience, you will return to Ocho Rios for lunch at Island Village, a colorful shopping mall with a wide range of merchandise.
