Empúries (span. Ampurias) war eine antike griechische Kolonie und liegt eine gute Stunde Fahrt entfernt von Palamós. In der Antike bestand Empúries aus der frühen Altstadt, der griechisch-iberischen Neustadt und der römischen Municipalstadt - ein einzigartiges Beispiel für die frühe Besiedlung der Iberischen Halbinsel durch die römische und griechische Kultur. Ihre Blütezeiten erlebte die Stadt in der hellenistischen Zeit sowie der frühen römischen Kaiserzeit. Die Ruinen liegen etwa 35 km südlich der französischen Grenze und gaben unter anderem der Region Empordà und der Marina Empuriabrava ihren Namen. Während eines etwa 1,5-stündigen Aufenthalts sehen Sie die interessante Ausgrabungsstätte und können das Monografische Museum mit iberischen, griechischen und römischen Funden besuchen. Die Rückfahrt erfolgt über Begur, mit einem etwa einstündigen Rundgang, danach geht es zurück zum Schiff.

Nach knapp 1 Std. Busfahrt erreichen Sie Girona, Hauptstadt der gleichnamigen spanischen Provinz. Die Universitätsstadt hat über 96.000 Einwohner und liegt am Zusammenfluss der vier Flüsse Onvar, Ter, Güell und Galligants. Die wechselvolle Geschichte spiegelt sich in einer Reihe von Sehenswürdigkeiten wieder. Beeindruckend ist der ca. einstündige Besuch der gotischen Kathedrale Santa Maria, an der jahrhundertelang gearbeitet wurde. Das Langhaus verfügt über ein Kreuzrippengewölbe mit einer Breite von 23 m und einer Höhe von 34 m und ist damit der weiteste Saalbau des europäischen Mittelalters. Die Kathedrale beherbergt außerdem wertvolle Schätze, wie Juwelen, alte Bibeln und den Schöpfungsteppich aus dem 11. Jh. Nach dem Besuch der Kathedrale, folgt ein Spaziergang mit Besuch des mittelalterlichen Stadtzentrums und des jüdischen Viertels. Danach geht es mit dem Bus zurück zum Schiff.

Depart the pier for the scenic, approximately 30-minute drive to Finca Bell LLOC. Designed by the architects RCB (awarded with the Pritzker in 2017), this wine cellar is an underground space integrated in the landscape. It is hidden below the vineyard, which gives this cellar a special, mysterious essence. Upon arrival, take a guided tour of the winery and cellar. During your cellar visit, learn about the vineyard, cellars, and wines produced here during a wine and olive oil tastings.
Catalan Lunch with Wine, Farm-Raised and Locally-Sourced Ingredients
Next, your introduction to the excellent wines produced here continues with a gastronomic lunch created by the local chef, Ángel, who offers traditional menus of Catalan cuisine with ingredients earmarked by the 'Girona' seal of quality. The Ingredients are fresh, with most of them obtained directly from the vegetable garden and farmyard, where they raise chickens, sheep, goats and Iberian pigs (fed mainly with acorns). Depart the pier for the scenic, approximately 30-minute drive to Pubol. Salvador Dalí married Gala, his muse, in 1958. Their relationship was, at certain points, obsessive, and so it was reflected in Dalí's works, thoughts and actions. Gala deserved the universe for him, and Dalí put it at her feet. Dali considered it to be obligatory for a muse to have a special place to reside, and for that purpose he acquired and designed the Castle of Dalí in 1969. Dalí completely reinvented this old, medieval building, always under the watchful eye of Gala. During your visit, your guide explains the main Dalinian decorative elements in each space, and escorts you through the different rooms where Gala lived and Dali worked.

Jewish Quarter & Museum, Arab Baths
A visit is made to the interesting area of El Call (the Jewish Quarter). Upon arrival, walk through one of the best-preserved Jewish quarters inhabited for almost seven centuries and visit the Jewish Museum. The main aim of the Museum is to preserve and reflect the history of the Jewish communities of Catalonia, which throughout the entire medieval period formed part of, and made a decisive contribution to the history of the country and its cultural and scientific development.
At the very heart of the Jewish Quarter are the Arab Baths with their beautiful arches. In spite of its name, the 12th-century construction of the baths is in the Western-Romanesque style.
Pastry Pause
Following your tour, proceed to a local restaurant to enjoy a coffee or tea and taste a couple of local mini sweets like "xuixo", a viennoiserie pastry typical from Girona. It is a deep-fried, sugar-coated cylindrical pastry filled with crema catalana.

Dali designed it in the last years of his life, right down to the last detail. The outside walls have small sculptures of bread buns; on top of the museum are golden mannequins and giant eggs.

Upon entering the museum, take a guided tour of the first floor. Your first stop is the patio, where Dali's Cadillac can be found. On top of the hood of the car is a sculpture of a woman. There is also a wall that contains many more gold mannequins. A large painting by Dali looks like it has several figures of Venus de Milo, but, when you squint your eyes, the painting metamorphoses into the face of Abraham Lincoln. Following your tour, some free time is made available for independent exploration.
