Mossman Gorge, Smoking Ceremony

Next, re-board your coach and head to Mossman Gorghe. Upon arrival, you are greeted with a traditional smoking ceremony, which is conducted by Aboriginal people to welcome you to their land. This ceremony of spiritual cleansing serves to ward off evil spirits, and to ensure that you are accepted and honoured whilst on the traditional land of the Kuku Yalanji people. In this beautiful, ancient rainforest, immerse yourself into this lovely corner of North Queensland with the people who have been its custodians for thousands of years. Following the smoking ceremony, journey along gentle trails and immerse yourself in the Aboriginal world on an enchanting Ngadiku Dreamtime Walk.

Ngadiku Dreamtime Walk, Traditional Huts, Plant Uses, Bush Food Sources, Tea, Damper

A must for every visitor to Mossman Gorge, this experience introduces the Aboriginal spiritual belief of the Dreamtime, when mythic ancestors formed the earth, and which is manifested to this day in their land and dreams. Be captivated by Ngadiku legends and the traditions of the Kuku Yalanji culture that thrives here today, and pass by traditional huts, or 'humpies'. Your guide explains traditional plant use, identifies local bush tucker (food) sources, and demonstrates practices such as making bush soap and ochre-painting. Following your tour, proceed for some bush tea and damper (unleavened bread). At the conclusion of your visit, re-board your coach and commence the approximately one-hour drive back to the pier.

Your exciting flight continues over Arlington Reef before returning to the helipad in Cairns. At the conclusion of your unforgettable flight-seeing excursion, re-board your coach and commence the short transfer back to the pier.

Please note: This tour involves a minimal amount of walking for approximately 547 yards (about 500 metres), with a few steps to negotiate to get on/off the coach and board/de-board the helicopter. This tour is not suitable for guests with a fear of heights, guests prone to airsickness, and guests who utilise a wheelchair. Guests are advised to wear lightweight, comfortable clothing with flat, closed-toe walking shoes, and bring sun protection, bottled water, and local currency or credit cards for purchases from the ship. Guests must carry their passports and ship's ID at all times. Each helicopter seats a maximum of three guests. The total passenger weight cannot exceed approximately 530 pounds (about 240 kilograms). Guests weighing more than 286 pounds (about 130 kilograms) cannot participate on this tour. Due to weight and balance limitations, as well as individual safety and comfort, seating is assigned at the pilot's discretion. A window seat is guaranteed. The total flight time is approximately one hour; flight times can vary based on flight conditions. This beautiful area is host to three diverse eco-systems (beach, mangrove, and coastal reef) that provide a rich and diverse food supply unique to this coastal-reef eco-system. Upon arrival, join a member of the Kubirri Warra clan on their daily journey through these rich eco-systems to spear and gather food for their family.

Along the way, your Kubirri Warra guide introduces you to the traditional Aboriginal fishing and gathering techniques that have been passed down through generations, and are still practised to this day.
