Sie passieren mit dem Bus den Hauptort Uturoa. Die Stadt ist das Verwaltungszentrum für die Leeward-Inseln (Îles Sous-le-vent). Sie fahren entlang zur Südostküste, vorbei an Avera und dem Faaroa-Tal, einem wichtigen landwirtschaftlichen Gebiet. Unterwegs kurzer Besuch eines Perlenzuchtbetriebes mit Gelegenheit zum Kauf. Danach folgt eine Fotopause am Faaroa Belvedere mit schönem Panoramablick auf das Innere des Kraters von Raiatea und die umliegenden Bergrücken. Im Anschluß fahren Sie zum Marae Taputapu?tea, seit 2017 in die Liste der UNESCO-Weltkulturerbestätten aufgenommen. Der Taputapu?tea-Marae-Komplex war ein politisches und zeremonielles Zentrum. Von Raiatea aus gelangen Sie mit kleinen Motorbooten durch das ruhige Gewässer der Lagune nach Taha'a, der Schwesterinsel Raiateas. Auf Taha'a steigen Sie um in Geländewagen (8-Sitzer mit Fahrer) und beginnen Ihren Ausflug über die Hügel und durch die Täler der Insel mit Fotostopps an den schönsten Aussichtspunkten. Unterwegs wird eine Vanilleplantage besichtigt und außerdem steht der Besuch einer Perlenfarm auf dem Programm. The island offers a great wealth of discoveries between the passes and their surroundings or in the open sea. The clarity of the water allows quiet underwater dives during which you will be able to observe the abundant marine life.

Please note: This adventure tour for certified divers only, requires an extensive amount of activity. It must be reserved or cancelled by February 28, 2025 to avoid penalties. Guests must have been diving within the last year; please bring your dive log. Guests must present your certification card to participate and be able to complete a required medical questionnaire and liability waiver. The tour includes all scuba equipment, including wet suit. Guests may wish to bring your own mask and snorkel. Refresher Dive as well as Nitrox is available upon request. Raiatea, Panoramic Sail, Pearl Farm

Depart the pier aboard a covered boat for a panoramic sail along the coast of Raiatea, known as the 'Sacred Island' in reference to the land from which the first Polynesians are said to have originated. Whilst gliding along the inviting, crystal-clear waters of the big blue lagoon, playground for majestic dolphins, a stop is made for a swim and a platter of fresh, local fruit. Afterward, head to a pearl farm nestled on the water. During your visit, learn how the world-renowned black pearls of Tahiti are cultivated and observe the different stages of pearl development.

Tevaitoa, Wild Bays, Cliffs, Waterfalls, Nao Nao Coral Garden, Snorkelling, Tropical Fish, Picnic

Next, embark the boat and sail south along the town of Tevaitoa, noted for its wild bays punctuated by several cliffs and waterfalls. A stop is made at the Nao Nao Coral Garden for a guided snorkelling session amidst the coral potatoes and multi-coloured tropical fish. Following your snorkelling session, embark the boat for a scenic and relaxing picnic in this little corner of paradise.

Eastern Raiatea, Fareaatai, 'Sugar Loaf', Marae de Taputapuatea Archaeological Site, Faaroa Bay

After lunch, sail towards the eastern side of the island and stop in front of the 'Sugar Loaf' of Fareaatai, an ideal opportunity for a siesta on the trampoline above the blue lagoon. From here, sail on to the famous Marae de Taputapuatea, an exceptional archaeological site classified as a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 2017. Upon arrival, marvel at this captivating ancient site with the greatest respect for its sacred legacy. At the conclusion of your visit, commence the short ride back to the pier. En route, pass by the mesmerising green landscape of Faaroa Bay.

Raiatea, Taha’a Coast

Depart the pier aboard a covered motorized boat for the 30-minute ride along the east coast of Taha’a, Raiatea beautiful sister island. Upon arrival, you will disembark the boat for a guided walk across an uninhabited islet, or motu, located just off the coast.

Drift Snorkeling

After reaching the other side of the motu, you will commence your snorkeling experience. Your guide will lead you while the current carries you through the shallow lagoon on the way back to the boat. The drift can be moderate to strenuous depending on the strength of the current. This area abounds with a spectacular variety of tropical fish and amazing coral. Dependent on weather, enjoy 2 or 3 guided drifts along the beautiful Coral Garden. Upon returning to the boat, refreshments will be served before you are transferred back to the pier.

After a brief safety instruction, depart the tender pier for a scenic ride to start your tour. Discover the FAAROA valley with a stop at the botanical garden. There, you'll find paths lined with an array of flowers, tropical plants, and fruit trees. Proceed to Gabbro’s site, where you will see eroded plutonic rocks called gabbros in the shape of a gutter, two platforms overlooking the caldera, and views of tropical fruit fields

Belvedere, Aman Plantations

Continue on the Belvedere and viewpoint on the valley. At the top of the road that traverses the southern part of Raiatea, marvel at the scenic viewpoint that offers stunning views of the Fa'aroa estuary and the surrounding countryside. Continuing on, the group may choose to return by the agricultural tracks of the Aman plantations on the way to Marea Taputapuatea.

Marea Taputapuatea 

Before transferring back to the pier, see the UNESCO World Heritage site Marea Taputapuatea. Learn how Marae Taputapuatea served as a central religious and cultural hub for the Polynesian people. It is considered the spiritual homeland and the point from which Polynesian voyaging canoes set off to explore and settle the vast Pacific Ocean.

At conclusion, transfer back to the pier.

After embarking a motorized outrigger canoe at the pier, you can relax as your guide navigates the boat through the magnificent lagoon and along the scenic coastline toward Faaroa Bay. In ancient times, this fjord-like inlet with steep, verdant cliffs on either side was the traditional departure point for Polynesians emigrating to Hawaii and New Zealand. Venture up the Faaroa River, cruising for approximately one mile into the shady realms of thick foliage and jungle growth.

Motu Beach Break

The tour continues with a visit to one of the many 'motus' scattered around the lagoon, and an opportunity to soak up the picture-perfect setting of the coral atoll and its white-sand beach. Swim, snorkel or just relax and take in these beautiful surroundings whilst being served local fruits and juice.

Your tour concludes with a brief cruise back to the pier in Uturoa.

Faaroa River, Safety Briefing, Two-Hour Guided Kayaking

Depart the pier and drive to the Faaroa River, the only navigable river in French Polynesia. Upon arrival you will receive your safety briefing and equipment before embarking on your approximate two-hour kayaking adventure. Starting at the fjord-like inlet known as the Faaroa Gorge, gently paddle along the river with your guide passing lush jungle foliage which is home to many species of birds and wild hibiscus purau trees. Take in the peaceful surroundings and appreciate Raiatea's lush jungle interior before re-boarding your minibus for the return journey back to the pier.

Taha’a, Viewpoint, Vanilla Plantation

Upon arrival on Tahaa, board a 4-wheel-drive vehicle and head to the valleys and mountains of the island. Your guide will point out sights along the way. You'll stop at a beautiful viewpoint and learn the traditional uses of local plants and trees. Sample various local fruits and learn tamure -- typical Tahitian dancing. The island of Tahaa is often called ‘the Vanilla Island’ and you will learn about this fragrant spice while visiting a small family-owned vanilla plantation.

Black Pearl Farm, Taha’a Motu, Snorkeling

You will also visit a black pearl farm and discover how these treasures of the sea are raised and harvested. These small cottage industries are part of this small island’s economic structure. Finally, board a motorized outrigger canoe for an enjoyable ride across the turquoise waters of Taha’a and drive to a motu (islet) for some snorkeling.

Marae Taputaputatea by 'Le Truck'

Utoroa, Bay of Faaroa, Faaroa River

Leaving the port area, your truck navigates through the town of Uturoa, around the Bay of Faaroa to your first stop with a view over the Faaroa River, which is the only navigable river in the Society Islands.

Marae Taputapuatea

After your photo-stop, re-board your truck and head to the Marae Taputapuatea, a UNESCO World Heritage Site which features a number of Marae and other stone structures and once was considered the central temple and religious centre of Eastern Polynesia.

Volcanic Crater View

Your last stop on this tour will be to view a volcanic crater before your drive back to your ship. During the drive, your guide will point out local fruits and flowers in various stages of growth and you will discover tropical plants, flowers and trees that contribute to the lush beauty of the Island.  

The tour concludes back at the pier.

Visit Raiatea's most famous landmark, Marae Taputapuatea, and see the lush countryside on this mostly panoramic experience. Raiatea, meaning "faraway heaven", is not only famous for its stunningly beautiful bays and landscapes, but also its rich culture and history.

As Raiatea was considered to be the religious center of Polynesia, this dramatic and well-maintained UNESCO World Heritage Site is quite significant, with many associated legends involving both the sacred and magical.

Marae Taputapuatea is an open-air temple comprised of 7 marae (cleared, sacred spaces) that are constructed of stones and coral and is one of the largest ancient temples in French Polynesia. It is from this temple that migrations throughout the South Pacific started.

Please note: Le Truck is a casual, open-air vehicle resembling a windowless bus and has bench-style seating. Commentary during the driving portion of your tour is limited due to noise from the truck's operation. This tour involves minimal walking. Raiatea, Mount Temehani , Raiatea Coastline

The cultural and administrative center of Raiatea. Shortly after leaving town, you will see Mount Temehani -- endemic home to the Tiare Apetahi. This extremely rare flower grows nowhere else on earth. An amazing fact about this flower is that each morning, when the sun touches the flower, the petals open with a slight crackling sound. From the bus, take in the view of the lagoon that is home to some pearl farms. Your scenic drive will pass the coastline and give you a glimpse of Polynesian daily life. Raiatea is a very green island, and your guide will point out flowers and fruits along the way.

Fetuna, Marae of Tainuu

Continue on the inland road of Raiatea, joining the east coast road that leads through a giant bamboo forest to the south of the island. Pass through the village of Fetuna, whose primary industry is fishing, then pause for refreshments at the district of Vaiau. You will stop at the marae (open-air temple) of Tainuu before heading back to the pier. Time permitting, you may also stop briefly at a pearl farm along the way.

Next, re-board your vehicle and head to a local vanilla plantation. Upon arrival, take a guided tour to learn about the tantalising taste and aroma of this local 'black gold'.
