Im Geländewagen fahren Sie über asphaltierte Wege in das – auch während der Trockenzeit - "immergrüne" Wadi Darbat und haben Freizeit für einen Spaziergang entlang des Wadi-Bettes, umgeben von Herden von Kamelen und Ziegen. Weiterfahrt zu einer der weltgrößten Sinkhöhlen (über 200 m tief und 150 m Durchmesser) und in das Gebirge des Jebel Samhan. Von einem Plateau auf fast 1.700 m Höhe genießen Sie einen besonders schönen Blick auf die Ostküste und die Bergkette von Qara. Danach etwa einstündige Rückfahrt zum Schiff.

Etwa 45-minütige Busfahrt in den Küstenort Taqah, der berühmt ist für seine Sardinen-Fanggründe, die sonnengetrocknet werden und als Viehfutter dienen. Sie besuchen die etwa 250 Jahre alte Festung Taqah, ehemals Wohnsitz des Gouverneurs, die nach der Restaurierung seit Dezember 2011 der Öffentlichkeit zugänglich ist. Weiterfahrt zu der archäologischen Ausgrabungsstätte Khor Rori. Der antike Weihrauchhafen Samharam ist seit 1988 auf der Liste des UNESCO-Weltkulturerbes. Zum Abschluss fahren Sie zum Weihrauchsouk Haffah, wo Sie zahllose Produkte rund um dieses geheimnisvolle Harz kaufen können. Nach dem etwa 45-minütigen Aufenthalt Rückfahrt zum Schiff.

Zunächst 45-minütige Busfahrt östlich nach Ain Razat, eine natürliche Wasserquelle, die ganzjährig Palmenplantagen sowie einen Botanischen Garten versorgt. Auf der Weiterfahrt machen Sie einen Fotostopp an der beeindruckenden Sultan-Qaboos-Moschee (Außenbesichtigung) und sehen üppig grüne Gemüse- und Obstplantagen. Während eines kurzen Stopps können Sie sich mit Kokoswasser an einem der Obststände erfrischen (nicht inkl.). Sie besuchen das "Museum des Weihrauchlandes" (Museum of the Frankincense Land), in dem Sie viele interessante Informationen und geschichtliche Hintergründe rund um dieses wertvolle Räucherwerk erfahren. Zum Abschluss besuchen Sie den Haffah Souk, der von dem Geruch des Weihrauchs erfüllt ist und zahllose Produkte aus Weihrauchharz anbietet. Der Ausflug beginnt mit einem Besuch des Strandes von Mughsail, wo der weiße Sand das tiefe Blau des Ozeans berührt und das Wasser der Brandungswellen durch die "blowholes" gedrückt wird und fontänenartig emporspritzt (gezeitenabhängig). Weiterfahrt über Haarnadelkurven mit Ausblicken ins Tal der Weihrauchbäume, die in dieser trockenen schroffen Region ihren natürlichen Lebensraum haben. Anschließend besuchen Sie das Grab des Nabi Imran, der nach islamischer und einiger jüdischer Traditionen der Vater der Jungfrau Maria gewesen ist, und sehen die beeindruckende Sultan Qaboos-Moschee (Außenbesichtigung, Fotostopp). Zum Abschluss besuchen Sie den Haffah Souk, vom Geruch des Weihrauchs erfüllt und bekannt für das Angebot von Produkten der Weihrauchpflanze. Aber auch andere traditionelle Souvenirs können hier erworben werden. Nach einem kurzen Besuch auf dem Souk Rückkehr zum Schiff.

The first stop on your sightseeing tour of Salalah is at the huge Sultan Qaboos Mosque Salalah (Salalah Grand Mosque). Upon arrival, take a guided tour inside this beautiful house of worship.

Built between 1995-2001, the Salalah Grand Mosque is the largest mosque in Oman and can accommodate up to 20,000 worshippers. The entire interior is panelled with off-white and dark grey marble, and features exquisite artwork and stained tiles. An approximately 20-ton (about 18-tonne) hand-woven carpet with 115 million individual knots covers the floors. The ceilings are inspired by those of Omani forts, and a Swarovski crystal chandelier with gold-plated metalwork hangs down approximately 46 feet (about 14 metres). One of the finest beaches in Oman, Fazayah is an approximately 3.1-mile-long (about five kilometre-long) stretch of pristine, white-sand beach with crystal-clear water and a stunning landscape in the background. From here, head to Salalah's Haffa District for the first stop on your sightseeing tour of Salalah, the Al Baleed Archaeological Park. Along the way, learn about the ancient city of Dhufa, which existed in this area between the 12th century-16th century. Dhufa was once surrounded by water, and a massive wall complete with gates and turrets. There is evidence of a grand mosque, palaces, houses, and tombs that indicate the historical standing of the area. There was also a thriving export of frankincense and Arab horses to India and the Far East from Al Baleed. Stop by the Al Baleed Museum to explore the ruins unearthed at this site and attend a lecture by an expert, who explains the roots of frankincense and the important role it played in building the trade route. Next, re-board your coach and head to another UNESCO World Heritage Site, Wadi Dawkah.
Wadi Dawkah, Frankincense Trees, Extraction & Processing
Wadi Dawkah is a natural park of famous Frankincense trees. This wadi, located in the Dhofar region of Oman, is a stony, semi-desert valley. Its dense population of around 5,000 frankincense trees, including ancient specimens, is spread across approximately 1.9 square miles (about five square kilometres). Although frankincense trees can reach a height of approximately 26 feet (about 7.9 metres), most trees in Wadi Dawkah are no more than approximately 10 feet (about three metres) in height. Observe a demonstration of how frankincense is extracted from the tree and learn about the process for producing the best-quality frankincense. Your tour concludes with an approximately one-hour drive back to the pier.
Please note: This tour involves a moderate amount of walking for approximately 0.6 miles (about one kilometre), at times over uneven, natural, and cobblestone surfaces, with a few steps to negotiate to get on/off the jeep and at the Al Baleed Museum. This tour is not suitable for guests with limited mobility and guests who utilise a wheelchair. Guests are advised to wear lightweight, comfortable clothing with flat, sturdy, and closed-toe walking or hiking shoes, and bring sun protection, insect repellent, bottled water, and US Dollars, local currency, or credit cards for purchases from the ship; few shops accept credit cards. Visit the ancient ruins of the Palace of the legendary Queen of Sheba (Khor Rouri), believed to have been the centre for the shipping of frankincense.
Wadi Darbat, Wadi Bed, Lakes, Lush Vegetation & Wildlife
Next, re-board your coach and head to the spectacular Wadi Darbat. Upon arrival, take a relaxing stroll along the wadi bed, which is home to herds of camels, goats, cattle and donkeys. (Sighting of animals is not guaranteed). This is an area of great beauty, with lakes and lush green vegetation creating a natural paradise.
Ain Hamran, Old Trees, Shrubs, Bird Species, Ain Razat Springs, Cave, Natural Springs
Leaving Wadi Darbat, drive to Ain Hamran, a spectacular location in which age-old trees and shrubs have become nesting places for several species of birds throughout the year. Your final stop is at the Ain Razat Springs. Upon arrival, take a short, guided walk to enjoy breath-taking views of the cave face and landscape by the natural springs, where a variety of bird species and plants can be found. At the conclusion of your visit, re-board your Jeep and commence the approximately 50-minute drive back to the pier.

After lunch, some free time is made available to relax by the Salalah Rotana Hotel's swimming pool and beach. Next, re-board your coach and drive to the Salalah Grand Mosque for an exterior photo stop. At the conclusion of your visit, re-board your coach and commence the approximately 30-minute drive back to the pier.
Please note: This tour involves a minimal amount of walking for approximately 547 yards (about 500 metres), at times over uneven and sandy surfaces, with a few steps to negotiate to get in/out of the coach and 15 steps at the Al Husn Souq. Guests will be dropped off at the Al Husn Souq to stroll on their own among the vendors. The colourful stalls are heaped with mounds of frankincense, myrhh, incense, bottles of fragrant perfume oils and a large variety of fascinating artefacts.
On arrival your guide will advise of the central meet point for the return drive to the pier to re-join the ship.
Please Note: This tour requires a minimal amount of activity and walking is at the discretion of the guest. Please dress conservatively when going ashore. Beach wear is not considered appropriate attire. Women should not wear anything revealing, including miniskirts, shorts, sleeveless or low-cut tops. Men should always wear a shirt in public. Please do not photograph people without their permission, especially women, who will be greatly offended. You may not take pictures of government buildings, embassies or anything military in nature, including airports. Most shops and souqs are closed between 1:00 p.m. and 4:00 p.m. The local currency is the Omani rial. Many businesses and venues are closed on Fridays.

Al Balid
The ancient city known as Dhufa grew in this area between the 12th and 16th centuries. Today, the ruins of this magnificent city can be seen at the Al Balid archaeological site in the Haffa district of Salalah. Dhufa was once surrounded by water and a massive wall complete with gates and turrets. There is evidence of a grand mosque, palaces, houses and tombs that indicate the historical standing of the area. There was a thriving export of frankincense and Arab horses to India and the Far East from Al Balid. A visit is made to Museum of the Land of Frankincense which is located inside of the Al Balid site.

Next, drive through the grounds of the magnificent Al Husn Palace where photos can only be taken from the coach. The Palace is the personal residence of His Majesty, The Sultan of Oman.

Lastly, stop at the Al Husn Souq and stroll among the vendors. The colourful stalls are heaped with mounds of frankincense, myrhh, incense, bottles of fragrant perfume oils and a large variety of fascinating artefacts.
Your tour concludes with a short ride back to the pier to embark the ship.

Al Dahriz village & Lagoon
Khawr Al Dahriz is located at the eastern entrance of Salalah city in the Governate of Dhofar. It rises 3 meters above sea level, and is surrounded by a group of dense vegetation, making it a good location for the breeding of many types of birds. Spacious and convenient location for trips and away from hustle and bustle of the city. Its waters intermingle with Salalah basin waters, especially the wells located on the coastal strip. This lagoon is important to biodiversity as it is heavily frequented by migratory birds.
Mughsail Beach
Take a short walk and admire the 2-mile (3 kilometres) stretch of unspoilt, white sandy beach with steep cliffs at both ends. If your arrival coincides with the high tides, you may be able to witness the spectacular 'Blow Holes' shoot jets of water into the air before returning back to Salalah Port.

Please note: This tour involves a moderate amount of walking for approximately 900 yards (822 meters) over rough, uneven ground at the archaeological site and with 35 steps at Mughsail Beach. It is not recommended for guests utilizing a wheelchair or those with limited mobility. Air conditioning cannot be guaranteed. We suggest you wear sturdy walking shoes. Shorts, beachwear, and sleeveless shirts are not permitted. The order of sites seen or visited may vary. It is forbidden to take pictures of military facilities, borders and airports; observe the "NO PHOTOGRAPHY" signs.Sighting of the now rare frankincense trees cannot be guaranteed.
