Landausflüge in Torshavn
Bitte beachten: Sehr begrenzte Teilnehmerzahl.

Vagar is one of the 18 islands in the archipielago of the Faroe Islands. To see the island, you’ll travel via Kaldbak fjord and the Kollafjørð valley. See Vágar’s changing scenery and explore its villages as your guide narrates interesting facts about the island’s history. Drive through the villages of Sandavágur, visit the church and the village of Miðvágur before reaching Vatnsoyrar. Next, arrive in Bøur, a little village with both old and new houses with green grass turf roofs and a charming old tar-blackened church.
From here, appreciate the spectacular view of the Tindhólmur islet and the island of Mykines. Depart Bøur and drive up through the tunnel to Gásadalur, Vágar’s westernmost village. Gásadalur is the last village to be connected by road with the rest of the island. Lastly, return to Tórshavn via the mountain road to capture panoramic views of the fjords and the capital.
Your tour will take you along the Kaldbak fjord where you’ll enjoy the sight of cascading waterfalls and lazy sheep wandering about. Drive through the tunnel to Kollafjørður and further north through the valley, for a stop at the top of the columnar basalt of Streymoy sill. From here, start your walk at 918 feet/280 meters above sea level up the mountain and towards the sill. Once at the top, admire the splendid scenery of the rock formation and beautiful scenery of the island of Vágar.
From Thorshavn, take a 50-minute drive to the north, past idyllic villages and the old whaling station at Áir. Here, you’ll find the only bridge over the Atlantic connecting Eysturoy with the larger island of Streymoy. Because its channel is so narrow, spectacular eddies form at the base of the bridge when the current is running strongly with the tide. Next, pass Eiði and cross the mountains to Gjógv. On the way, see the Giant and the Hag, two very distinctive sea stacks that your imagination will have fun with.
You'll also pass the highest mountain in the Faroe Islands, Slættaratindur (2,983 feet). See the rather handy Gjógv Gorge; which at 616 feet long provides a marvelous natural harbor for the local fishing fleet to shelter in. Stop in the village of Gjógv, at the local guesthouse, to enjoy some refreshments. Lastly, your ride back to Thorshavn is via the mountain road and you’ll stop at the viewpoint overlooking the capital.
It began as a Viking settlement, then a market, later a thriving town and today it is one of the smallest and most pleasant capital cities in the world. Thorshavn today blends the historical and picturesque with all the features of a modern city. You’ll discover quality restaurants and hotels, conference facilities, interesting museums, discotheques, cinema, live theater, exhibitions, sports facilities, parks, and of course excellent shopping. The town and the surrounding areas are ideal for window shopping and pleasant strolls.
As Thorshavn is located in the center of the country, the well-developed bus and ferry service can whisk you away to almost every corner of the Faroes and back again the same day. Your tour will visit Tinganes, which is the historic part of Thorshavn. Enjoy a short stop at Skansin to explore the old fort before driving up to the beautiful Nordic House Cultural Centre. When returning to your ship you’ll pass through the modern sections of the city and stop briefly at a viewpoint overlooking the capital.
Peace, tranquillity and stunning vistas can be enjoyed during this leisurely mile-and-a half (2.5 kilometre) hike that takes you closer to the nature of the Faroe Islands.
Depart Tórshavn by coach and ascend the mountain road glimpsing fjords and distant islands until reaching approximately 216 yards (200 metres) above sea level. From here, embark on a cross-country trek in the company of knowledgeable local guides. The first 216 yards (200 metres) of the hike is strenuous after which you can relax and appreciate the fascinating landscapes as they unfold.
Streymoy Sill
Pause on top of the columnar basalt of Streymoy Sill. This fascinating volcanic formation was sculpted smooth by glaciers and glacial etchings are still visible. Stretching below is the sea with the island of Vagar beyond. In this remote area the ethereal silence is punctuated only by the sounds of nature. Enjoy these magnificent surroundings before returning to the coach. The return to Torshavn is via a tunnel that emerges at the Kaldbakfjord where gentle waterfalls and wandering sheep complete the tranquil picture.
Please Note: This tour involves an approximate 1.5 mile (2-kilometre) steep uphill hike; participants should be in excellent physical condition. This tour is not suitable for guests with limited mobility or guests who utilise a wheelchair. The ground is uneven and can be muddy and hiking boots and warm, waterproof clothing are required.
Drive to Kirkjubøur, the ecclesiastical and cultural center of the Faroe Islands during the Middle Ages and site of the bishop's residence prior to the Reformation. Take in the imposing ruin of Saint Magnus Cathedral that still dominates landscape. Learn about its construction, thought to have begun in the late-thirteenth century based upon the Gothic architecture. Visit the 900-year-old Roykstovan, both a museum and a home to centuries of Kirkjubøur farmers.
Next, continue to the National History Museum. Be immersed in Faroese yore covering the millennium between the Viking Age to modern times.
Continue to historic Tórshavn, the capital of the Faroe Islands. Visit the historical core of the city known as Tinganes, thought to be one of the oldest, if not the oldest, parliamentary meeting places in the world. Take a guided walk through the narrow streets, between the old houses with traditional turf roofs, and hear about this seat of Viking governmental process that began around the year 900.
Please note: This excursion is not recommended for guests with limited mobility as there are at least 30 minutes of walking on uneven surfaces with some steps. Warm comfortable clothing and walking shoes are recommended.
Enjoy a two-hour hike along the beautiful path leading through old peat meadows. Head to Trælanípan, or Slave Cliff, a name dating back to the Viking Age when disobedient slaves were pushed off the mountain straight to their deaths. Take in the views from this perpendicular rock wall jutting 142 meters up from the ocean, and spy the southernmost parts of the several other Faroe Islands.
From here, see the fresh water Lake Leitisvatn, the largest lake in the Faroe Islands. Look at the body of water from a particular angle and an optical illusion makes the lake appear to hover over the ocean, earning it the sobriquet "the lake over the ocean."
At the end of the lake discover the impressive Bøstalafossur Waterfall that thunders down 30 meters into the Atlantic Ocean.
Please note: This hike is strenuous and participants should be in good physical condition. This tour is not recommended for guests with limited mobility because it requires two hours (6km) of walking on gravel and mountain terrain. Warm clothing and good walking shoes are recommended. This tour is subject to cancellation if the weather becomes too bad.
Explore the capital and largest city of the Faroe Islands during this panoramic, half-day sightseeing excursion to Tórshavn and its surrounds.
Tórshavn, Eidi and Funning Viewpoints, and Scenic Bridge
Depart the pier for the scenic, approximately 45-minute drive north, past idyllic villages, en route to photo stops at the Eidi and Funning viewpoints. During your stops, see 'the only bridge over the Atlantic', as it is sometimes called, which spans the narrow channel of Sundini to connect Eysturoy with the larger island of Streymoy. Because the channel is so narrow, spectacular eddies form at the base of the bridge when the current is running strong with the tide. During your visit, you are invited to walk the short distance, 'over the Atlantic'.
Sea Stacks and Slættaratindur Mountain
Next, re-board your coach, continue past Eidi and cross the mountains to Gjógv Village. Along the way, take in a splendid view of two very distinctive sea stacks known as 'The Giant and the Hag', and pass by the highest mountain in the Faroe Islands, the approximately 2,894-foot-high (about 882-metre-high) Slættaratindur.
Gjógv Village, Refreshments and Tórshavn Viewpoint
Upon arrival in Gjógv Village, see the approximately 617-foot-long (about 188-metre-long) gorge that serves as a natural harbour for fishing boats, and stop for cake and coffee at a local guesthouse. Following your visit, re-board your coach and head to the Tórshavn Viewpoint, which overlooks the capital. After a brief photo stop here, re-board your coach and commence the short drive back to the pier.
Please note: This tour involves a moderate amount of walking for approximately 0.6 miles (about one kilometre), at times over uneven and cobblestone surfaces and small hills, with a few steps to negotiate to get on/off the coach. Walking across the bridge is at the discretion of each guest. This tour is not suitable for guests with limited mobility, guests who utilise a wheelchair and guests with fear of heights. Guests are advised to wear warm, comfortable clothing in layers and a weatherproof jacket or coat with flat, closed-toe walking shoes, and bring sun protection from the ship. Guests must be at least 10 years old to participate on this tour.
