Ancient Greek Ruins of Selinunte
Classic - Selected Excursion
Dauer: 4.5 Stunden
Code: TPS-D

Depart the pier for a brief panoramic drive through Trapani, before proceeding on a scenic one hour drive to Selinunte. One of Sicily's great Greek archaeological sites, Selinunte is situated by the sea in the south-western corner of Sicily where the isolated ruins have stood abandoned for most of their history. The lack of later development allows modern visitors to imagine the ancient town of Selinus as it would have been two and a half thousand years ago.

Selinus

Arriving at Selinus, you will discover the remains of a city founded by the Greeks in the mid-7th century. Visit the remnants of three impressive temples that once graced the site. The first is Temple E, dating back to the 5th century BC and rebuilt in 1958. To the right stands Temple F, lying completely in ruins. Archaeologists believed that Temple G was dedicated to Zeus, and was among the largest of its type in the ancient world. Each of its columns weighs several tons. The surrounding rubble gives some indication of its immense size.

Re-board the motor coach for a scenic drive back to the pier.

Please note: This tour requires a moderate amount of walking for approximately 1000m (.65 miles) on uneven ground at times. This tour is not suitable for guests with limited mobility and guests who utilise a wheelchair. We recommend wearing comfortable clothing, flat walking shoes and sun protection.

Cooking Lesson and Lunch at Baglio Sorìa Winery Estate

Drive a short distance to arrive at the Baglio Sorìa Winery and Estate of the Firriato family. Consisting of a restored 17th century baglio (an Italian architectural term that means a building that contains a courtyard or court).

Enjoy an in-depth cooking lesson built around teaching you how to prepare Sicilian Slow Food, which may include Cous Cous, a local variation of the traditional North African dish brought to Sicily by Arab conquerors in the 9th and 10th centuries. As you cook, discover the real flavour of food, which consists entirely of local produce and farm products.

Your cooking lesson ends with the chance to dine on a lunch you helped prepare (accompanied by other local specialties), of course accompanied by a delightful tasting of wines of Firriato production selected by the sommelier.

Make the 30-minute return drive to the Trapani pier.
