Rostock by Nostalgic Tramway & Waterway
Classic - Selected Excursion
Dauer: 4.0 Stunden
Code: ZWD-U

Depart the quayside by coach for a short transfer to the tramway departure point.

Board an authentic, well preserved nostalgic tram (1950/1960), privately chartered, which was once Rostock’s main transportation system and depart on a nostalgic ride into the heart of the city.

On arrival in the centre, step back in time and start a brief orientation city walk through Mecklenburg Vorpommern’s largest city. Proceed to Northern Europe’s oldest university, the University of Rostock, founded in 1419 and built in the Italian Renaissance style. From here you will take a leisurely stroll through the “Kroepeliner Strasse” and “Am Neuen Markt” and explore the quaint shopping streets, which have flourished since the re-unification of East and West Germany in 1990. Even though the city centre was largely destroyed during the Second World War, you will still find a lot of historical buildings especially in this particular district.

Rostock lies 8 miles from Warnemuende, nestled on the banks of the river Warnow and the Baltic shore. It is largest Baltic port in Germany and a turntable for travellers and goods to and from Scandinavia and the Baltic countries. While other towns pay homage to glass and aluminium, the buildings in this old Hanseatic city pay tribute to diverse architectural eras; medieval and 1950’s architecture in the centre, modern housing blocks and 19th century villas in the suburbs.

Of special interest is the medieval town centre; the 15th century town hall has a seven turreted Gothic facade and an 18th century Baroque front structure and St. Mary’s Church, with its characteristic redbrick which was built around 1398. You will pay an inside visit and see an astronomical clock, which was built in 1472, with the calendar dating 2017, predicting days, dates, spot on.

Before you walk down to the jetty where you will board a boat for a cruise along the “Warnow” river transferring you back to Warnemuende, spend some time at leisure exploring Rostock on your own.

During the boat ride you can savour some typical and traditional German beer or German sparkling wine, whilst passing along waters travelled by seafarers of past and present.

Please note: This tour requires a moderate amount of walking 1 mile (1.6 kilometre) and 20 steps, at times over uneven, cobblestone surfaces, with a few steps to negotiate to get on/off the coach, the tram and the boat. This tour is not suitable for guests with limited mobility and guests who utilise a wheelchair.  The boat is not exclusive to Silversea guests. Order of sights may vary.

Warnemunde On Foot
Classic - Included Excursion
Dauer: 2.5 Stunden
Code: ZWD-S

Established in 1323, Warnemuende has been a fisherman's village since Medieval days.

Depart the pier on foot with your local tour guide on an exciting tour of this little village, lined with pretty fishermen houses along its quaint streets.

Nowadays, Warnemuende has become one of the most popular holiday resorts in Germany which you will experience during your stroll along the bustling promenades and piers, where mariners line the busy piers in the morning, either to sell their catch, or as a brief stopover during their Baltic journeys.

Continue past busy shops and many restaurants which adorn the beautiful one-storey gabled houses. Pass by the church of Warnemuende, a relatively young building from 1871, which is built in the typical red-brick-architecture of Northern Germany. Explore the white-sandy beaches where you'll hear about the history of the famous beach basket. Continue your walk to the 102-foot high lighthouse built in 1897/98, one of Warnemuende’s landmarks, from where you'll have an excellent panoramic view of Warnemuende, if you feel fit enough to climb those 135 steps. You may also stay downstairs and enjoy the hustle and bustle at the sea promenade.

Pay a brief inside visit to Warnemuende’s small local History Museum which is based in an old, local house from 18th century and which founded in 1914,

exhibiting the lives of fishermen, seafarers and the bathing culture of the coastal area.

During your walk through picturesque Warnemuende you will stop at a local Café for tea/coffee & cake before returning to the quayside.

Please note that the order of the tour may vary.

Please note: This tour requires a moderate amount of walking 1.5 mile (2 kilometre) and steps, at times over uneven, cobblestone surfaces. This tour is not suitable for guests with limited mobility and guests who utilise a wheelchair.
